During my trip to Japan, in total immersion in the country thanks to my Japanese friend Toshi, I had the chance to attend a tea ceremony. It is with great pleasure that I share this spiritual experience and its codes for you.
My experience
May 2009, departure for a Japan tripcountry that makes me dream and inspires me for many years … First time for me that I have taken the plane …, thanks to my Japanese friendI will live a exceptional stay ! Wednesday May 20, Toshi takes us to a Tea house To discover the tea ceremonyreal traditional ritual influenced by Zen Buddhism. As you can see in the photos below, Toshi himself, having been initiated by a tea mastergo us prepare Then we Serve the matcha green tea For tasting… Whaoo !! At the same time I am very impressed and so happy to be able to live such an experience !!
The tea ceremony
The ceremony begins with a purification ritual: After welcoming his guests, the tea master positions each accessories in his place (bowl, kettle, tea box, long ladle in bamboo, bamboo whip, simple and refined pottery). Then came the preparation phase while following a very precise ritual. The drink then presented itself under a slightly foaming texture.
For the tastingtea is first served to the guest of honor. When my turn came, I respected the ritual following:
- greet The next guest
- raise the bowl (sign of respect for the host)
- turn the bowl 2 times clockwise
- Drink two and a half sips you thé match one sucking well the last sip (The small suction noise is very important because it allows the tea master to understand that tasting is over)
- Finally, rest the bowl Before me (front front towards me, knowing that I drank on the opposite side)
At the time of writing, this spiritual experience took place over 10 years ago … I keep one magnificent memoryI even have the feeling that it was yesterday so this moment was unique…
